Vice President, Data EngagementOverview

The Data Strategy and Management team is responsible for improving enterprise-wide data practices as Mastercard continues its journey as a leading data and technology company. The Data Strategy and Management team deepens the value of Mastercard's data assets, navigates data risks while building enterprise data practices through governance, management and other data systems and processes.

The Vice President, Data Engagement has global responsibility for ensuring Mastercard's reputation and positioning on data issues reflects our responsible and ethical approach to data for external audiences. This role is a unique opportunity to partner with external organizations to build key data positions and research emerging data issues. This position will also work with Mastercard's business lines to continue to mature our data narrative, align business and data practices both for commercial purposes and “for good” in ways that continue to grow our business and build our data reputation in the market. This position reports directly to the Chief Data Officer.

Role

• Develop strategic positions relating to the ethical collection, use and sharing of data in the global data ecosystem, in the Mastercard network, as well as within Mastercard, to advance Mastercard as a data thought leader as Mastercard's data footprint and data practices continue to grow and change

• Develop and deepen relationships with key external parties in the data community, including academics, NGOs and other companies advocating for the ethical use of data. Participate/Lead external work groups addressing important data issues (AI Partnership, OECD/WEF/UN among others)

• Assist in identifying and researching emerging data issues in advance of business and market needs. Work across the organization to develop industry leading positions and responses understanding the practical implications of data regulation and trends. Design a proactive positioning strategy to ensure data related challenges are navigated proactively and in a manner that assists Mastercard to continue to utilize data for positive use

• Draft and promulgate external data communications, including articles, blogs, videos and other educational materials that advance Mastercard's internal and external data positions

• Review and improve Mastercard's product and external communications for potential data related sensitivities. Build and maintain senior-level relationships with internal partners (e.g. legal, privacy, public policy, Data & Services, C&I, MSG, communications, and marketing)

• Work with the rest of the Data Strategy & Management team to incorporate Mastercard's data positions in the team's work across the enterprise, including in the development of data driven products and solutions and in data philanthropic efforts

All About You

• Extensive experience with data policy issues, including: data ethics, data quality, misinformation, data harms, artificial intelligence and data bias as well as data privacy and information security. Demonstrable understanding of the subtleties of issues and importance of positioning and the connection to commercial business practices
• Network of data policy relationships from previous roles; understanding of policy think-tanks, NGOs, large organizations and the impact on the development of new and emerging policy;
• Experience preparing content for public speaking events, presentation materials, speeches and accompanying visual materials. Ability to generate blogs, articles and other written content for social media. Comfortable with public speaking
• Experienced with defining communication strategy; ability to take complex information and make it simple for a range of audiences. Ability to connect external future concepts to current business practices and future business direction
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Strong analytical skills; ability to understand complex data products in order to develop appropriate communication and education materials
• Leadership skills – high emotional intelligence; ability to “read the room” understand the audience, and importance of how information needs to be presented and when discretion is needed
• Bachelor's degree preferred
